Following on from last year’s hugely successful and highly personal EP “For You”, released to great acclaim (the EP’s title track was voted as Resident Advisor’s #1 Best Track of 2020, Crack Magazine’s #2 and Pitchfork’s #21), “Watch Out!” is a blast of uniquely crafted, high energy dance music, showcasing India’s euphoric, affirming sound at its most potent. To celebrate the release of “Watch Out!”, India will be headlining a socially distanced show on the 22nd May at Hackney’s Colour Factory - event info can be found here.
Movement lies in all aspects of the record and is deeply embedded in India - “a high energy person” by their own admission - through their musical processes, daily routine and approach to life. This energy is woven into the music with careful sampling of traffic lights in Peckham and crossings in Dublin, morphing recordings into a fast paced rhythm on the aptly named ‘You Can't Expect The Cars To Stop If You Haven't Pressed The Button'’. This spirit continues on infectiously feel-good track ‘Feierabend’, which translates to “end of working day” in German. In India’s words, it “expresses the joy you get when you finish work” - tying the EP back to transit and commuting, reminiscent of their traditional cycle route home from work.
Despite most of their shows being cancelled during 2020, the Doncaster born, London based artist, tipped as one of the most exciting dance music producers of the moment, had quite the year, showing no signs of slowing down. “For You” was released in May 2020 on Local Action and instantly received impressive pick up from the likes of Pitchfork (8.0), NME (5/5), Clash (8/10), Resident Advisor, Mixmag, The Guardian, Bandcamp, Dazed and more. India also won ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ at the annual DJ Mag Best of British Awards, and Pete Tong named them his ‘Breakout Star of the Year’ on his flagship BBC Radio 1 show.
